How to update Android GPS Date and Time? I remember a few years ago while traveling in Cambodia, I rode my bike into a very remote rural area with no electricity or mobile signal. Sleep in the camps was fun, but late at night our cell phones were completely discharged. The next morning we charged our cell phones using a portable solar charger but by then all date and time settings had been erased.Suddenly, we realized that we could use the time provided by GPS on our Android smartphones. A little tinkering with the Android settings and we had the correct date and time on our phones.
How to Update GPS Date and Time? [Android]
If you can’t get a mobile signal anywhere and the mobile shows the wrong time or date, you can also switch to GPS-provided data and time on Android. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open Android system settings and under the category System select Date and time .
- On the date and time screen, tap Auto date and time which is set to use the time provided by the network by default.
- From the list of options, you need to select Use time provided by GPS. It will show a message on your cell phone asking you to activate the GPS function and you will have to wait at least 1 minute to receive the GPS signal.
- Now you can walk to an open area where you can see the sky clearly without any object between the sky view and your mobile device. In a few seconds, you will have the time provided by a group of GPS satellites.

If there are no mobile signals in your area, you can still get accurate data and time using GPS satellites. All you need to do is change your phone to receive automatic date and time updates via GPS and that’s it.
