Free File Encryption Program FinalCrypt is a free Oracle Java-based file encryption program for all popular platforms like Windows, Mac OS and Linux. It uses old-fashioned one-time pad file encryption, first described by the famous American cryptographer Frank Miller in 1882. Even more than a hundred years later, this method cannot be decrypted even by supercomputers. In one-time pad encryption, a one-time pad key is paired with the source message to create the encrypted message – as long as the one-time pad key is kept secret, no one can break the encryption.

If you use the short one-time pad key, this type of encryption is very weak, because in this case the pad file is repeated for encryption and encryption experts can analyze the encrypted message to find the encrypted message slowly. FinalCrypt can generate very large one-time pad key files (multiple terabytes), making it completely impossible to decrypt files encrypted by FinalCrypt without the original one-pad key file.
Applications developed using Java usually require you to install the JRE (Java Runtimes Environment) on your computer before they can be run, but FinalCrypt comes with a portable JRE so you can run it without installing the JRE on your system. There are portable and installable versions for all platforms.
The FinalCrypt user interface guides you through what you need to do next. For example, when you first launch it, it shows the message “Select Key”, which means that you need to create a new one-time pad key file somewhere on your hard drive, or preferably on a USB pendrive, which can be created by clicking the “Create Key” button.
Once a key file has been created and selected on the right side of the FinalCrypt window, you can select files to encrypt from the left side of the FinalCrypt window. Optionally you can also enter a password, but with a large one-time pad key file it is not really necessary. Clicking the Encrypt button encrypts the selected files.
The encrypted files are renamed with the BIT file extension. Decryption of files is done in the same way. First you need to select the one-time pad key file, then select the encrypted files and then click the Decrypt button. As long as you keep the key file well hidden and secure on a removable drive, no one in the world can decrypt your files.
