In this review article I will share the best Google Chrome features and tips. It is one of the most used web browsers at the moment. It is available on both mobile and desktop platforms, but today we will only talk about some tips and tricks that you can use on the Google Chrome PC version.
The best Chrome features and tips
Google Chrome: Switch Tabs, View History and Open New Tabs
It’s not a very used method, but you can switch tabs, view its history or open a new tab using only the keyboard. The key combinations to press are:
- Ctrl + 1-9:Â Switch tabs (the number indicates the tab number);
- Ctrl + H:Â Show history;
- Ctrl + J: Open the downloaded windows;
- Ctrl + T: Open a new tab;
- Ctrl + K: Move the cursor to the address bar.
Google Chrome: Using the Address Bar from the Search Function
The Google Chrome address bar can perform many actions, such as performing mathematical calculations or answering questions (for example, how many 2-liter cups can there be).
Google Chrome: Synchronize with your Google Account
You have the possibility to synchronize the Google Chrome browser with your Google account. If you change computers a lot, this is great, because you will be able to synchronize settings, passwords and bookmarks. You can use it to log in to your Google Account and bring up your synchronization settings in the browser’s Settings by clicking on the (three dots) icon.
Google Chrome: Pin Tabs
In Google Chrome, you have the possibility to dock your favorite tabs so that you can save some space in the tab bar without losing quick access to your favorite web pages. To dock a tab you will need to right click on any open tab and select the (Dock Tab) option.
Using Chrome Autofill Features
Google Chrome comes with an autofill feature that will automatically fill out online forms with common fields such as address, cell phone number, email, name, etc. To enter autofill values, you need to do the following steps:
- Click the ”Menu” button (three dots);
- Click Settings;
- Click “Show advanced settings”;
- Under Passwords and forms, select Manage autofill settings;
- In the autofill settings window you can add new street address, email, etc.
Google Chrome: Resizing Text Boxes
There is the possibility to resize any text field in Google Chrome. This is very nice, especially when you are about to fill out a form and you want to make sure you type the correct information. To resize a text field, click and drag the bottom right corner of its box.
Chrome Using Task Manager
Many may not know, but each Google Chrome tab has a different occurrence. Supposedly, if you have 10 tabs open, you will have ten different Google Chrome Tasks open. The big search engine company has experimented with this to make sure that Google Chrome remains stable even when you have 20+ tabs open.
You can see how much memory and CPU resources each open tab is using by accessing the Chrome Task Manager. To open the Chrome Task Manager, press Shift + Esc or click the “ellipsis button” and select Tools -> Task Manager. This feature may not be very useful for new users, but I think anyone with more experience on a computer will find these features useful.
What are your thoughts on the Google Chrome web browser? Or what other option or feature would you like to see added? You can write in the comment field.
